About Skillswap.org

We created this group in 2018 before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our group is formed by three people who are committed to the development of our community. From the beginning, we’ve been putting together Skill Swap events and promoting awareness about this topic. Thanks to our initiative we managed to help many people in our community.

Who we are

We are based in New Jersey, and we love our community. We met in high school and managed to cultivate our friendship over the years. At first, we were just high school pals sharing the same things that every teenager shares but with time, our relationship became stronger.

Coming from different backgrounds, we all knew that we wanted to help our community, and that’s why, in 2018, we created the first exchange event in our neighborhood. As the event was quite a success, we decided to continue and plan another one the next year and we have done so until today.

After the success the event gathered in our neighborhood, we took our project to the next level and, thanks to a genuine passion for helping others, started the Skill Swap project. Even during the pandemic, we kept our event going by turning it into an online exchange of knowledge and skills.

Our vision

The world is very different now than it was 50 years ago. Job opportunities seem to be concentrated on only a few professions that have room to develop. An example of this is the IT industry. However, other types of jobs, especially more traditional ones, are becoming obsolete, and as the population grows the problem becomes bigger. Moreover, many people don’t have the resources to pay for advanced courses or capacitation workshops to gain new skills.

Luckily, skill Swap activities create a whole new perspective. It’s possible to gain knowledge at a low cost or entirely for free if we’re willing to give something in exchange. This is the reason we created this space and invested in it to help it grow and develop throughout these years.

Our mission

Our community is special, and we don’t say this only because it is ours. People responded enthusiastically and made time in their busy routines to collaborate on every step of the project.

Even though it took hours to organize each of the events, the results have been amazing, and this is why we want more.

Now our events are also on this blog we created for our community and other communities that want to do the same that we did. Our objective is to share valuable information for everyone to benefit from skill swap activities.

These are some of the topics you’ll find on this blog:

  • Past and future events
  • Ideas and resources
  • Useful tips to provide workshops and organize events
  • Feature articles about Skills Swap
  • News about Skills Swap around the world
  • Related information
  • Information about workshops, classes, courses, and similar events

We’ve lived in this community since we were born, and this is where we develop our careers and lives. Like we said before, we come from different backgrounds and have different professions, but we like to connect with those around us.

Thanks to our experience we’ve managed to make contacts in different towns, widening our network. Now we are happy to offer more variety and flexibility when it comes to skill sharing.

The events

Naturally, events play an important role in our blog’s content. This is the best way to put into practice everything we learn, and to give back all the benefits we’ve got in the first place. Thanks to the cooperation of three people, we have plenty of resources to run this blog successfully.

We try very hard to create a peaceful environment where opportunities are available for everyone and where people can have a sense of belonging. In this sense, this blog is the virtual space to support this movement.
